Pet Transfer Program
The Humane Society of Utah works with organizations throughout Utah and surrounding states to transport and relocate animals from areas where animal shelters are over capacity. Transfer programs like ours help create space so these animal shelters can focus their resources on the remaining animals in their care.
In an average year, more than 1,600 cats and dogs from local and national rescue transport partners come to HSU, where we provide medical and behavioral care to animals before placing them up for adoption.
Although some animals are brought to HSU by other organizations, most animals arrive in HSU transport vans. Our transport vehicles travel 20,000 miles per year. Two of our vehicles used for transport have been generously funded in part by grants from ASPCA & Petco Love.
