Dog lover John is one of the Humane Society's longest regular volunteers, with almost 10 years of weekly volunteer shifts. During his time volunteering with us, he has donated over 1,000 hours of his time to benefit the dog at HSU. Through rain, snow, or shine, we can always count on John to head in and make sure each dog gets out for their first walk of the day.

Superstar volunteer Mindy has been sharing her cat savvy skills and love with the felines of HSU for the past nine months. Each week our cats and staff look forward to the time that Mindy spends in our Kitty City cleaning, feeding, and snuggling any cat looking for a lap. But for Mindy, it doesn't stop at Kitty City, she also volunteers at our special events and assisting in our volunteer department. Read below to learn more about this multi-talented volunteer:
What brought you to HSU?
Mother - Daughter duo Kimberly and Laci joined our volunteer team this past April, and immediately knew they wanted to spend their time volunteering in our Critter Country. Every weekend this team of super volunteers is here cleaning the rabbit runs and spending time socializing with our littlest of adoptable kiddos. Whether they are elbows deep in newspaper or enjoying the sun with a rabbit in the Bun Run, these two always have a smile on their face. Their love of small animals and volunteering is infectious and has been a great bonding experience.
Melinda began her journey as a volunteer back in 2014! In that time she has become an integral member of our special events volunteer team. No matter how big or small, close or far, if it's a special event to support the animals here you will find Melinda there. She wraps presents in December, checks in patrons during Picture Your Pet with Santa, manages the Puppy Room at the Gala, helps to coordinate check-in at Bark at the Moon and so much more. Her love and special connection to animals is obvious in all of the work she does with us.
