Most pet ferret owners do not need to decide whether or not to spay or neuter their ferrets. The vast majority of ferrets sold in the U.S. already have been "fixed," This may be just as well, because, as mentioned in the accompanying article, a variety of diseases can usually be avoided if your pet has been spayed or neutered. (If you purchase a ferret from a private breeder, however, you may need to make the choice to spay or neuter your new pet.) Ferrets that have undergone these procedures often make better pets for other reasons, too.
Neutered males are less likely to mark their territories with urine, and both males and females will usually be tamer and less pungent if they are surgically sterilized.
When you consider all the possibilities, it just makes good sense to have your pets spayed or neutered. So have it done!
